Croft Organics of Skye - organic produce

We grow a wide selection of vegetables on the croft.  We grow organically and are part way through the process of conversion to full organic status with the Soil Association.   We can provide you with fresh produce on request, what is available depends on season but would usually be drawn from the following list: courgettes, lettuce, turnip, beetroot, chard, spinach, cabbage, onions, leeks, gooseberries.   We sell our vegetables to local restaurants and in the summer on the local food producers stall in Portree.   We have some (very) free range hens and sell eggs.

Local Produce - Information For Visitors

The main supermarket on Skye is the Co-op which stocks a good range of organic produce, fair trade produce and Scottish produce.   The Co-op is in the process of discontinuing its use of thin carrier bags.  It sells bags for life and cotton carriers in the shop.   Every Thursday in the summer in Portree local growers have a farmers market - here you can buy locally grown, picked that morning, fresh vegetables.  We sell our produce at that market.  There is also a bakery stall.   We can source many local products for you by contacting the producer direct for example if you want hand dived scallops or oysters ask and we will try to arrange it for you.   John can tell you which restaurants are using the best local produce at any time of the year and we will make bookings for you - many of them can get booked up very quickly.   Vanilla Skye on Wentworth street sells a good variety of local produce including handmade chocolates!   There are two local breweries the Isle of Skye Brewery www.skyebrewery.co.uk and the Cuillin Brewery www.cuillinbrewery.co.uk.   Talisker Distillery sells the famous Isle of Skye whisky www.scotchwhisky.net.
